Tool—alternative metal Grammy winners
Fronted by Maynard James Keenan, Los Angeles quartet Tool achieved both Grammy-winning and chart-topping success with a progressive take on dark, alternative metal. Check out the range of Tool tickets currently on offer at StubHub.
From Undertow to Fear Inoculum
The original Tool line-up, consisting of Maynard James Keenan on lead vocals, Danny Carey on drums, Adam Jones on guitar, and Paul D’Amour on bass, first came together in Los Angeles in 1990. The band achieved their commercial breakthrough three years later when they landed on the bill of the third annual Lollapalooza festival and reached the US Top 20 with their debut album ‘Undertow’. After Justin Chancellor replaced D’Amour, Tool returned with 1996 sophomore ‘Aenima’ and later picked up a Grammy Award for its title track. Following a hiatus in which Keenan formed another successful metal outfit, A Perfect Circle, the four-piece scored the first of three consecutive chart-toppers on the Billboard 200 with 2001’s ‘Lateralus’, following it up five years later with ‘10,000 Days’. The band then took a 13-year break from the studio but proved that they were still a force to be reckoned with when 2019’s ‘Fear Inoculum’ reached number one in no fewer than five countries. You can both buy and sell Tool tickets on StubHub.
The metal scene’s most distinctive live act
Having headlined festivals such as Lollapalooza, Coachella, and Bonnaroo, Tool have established a reputation as one of the metal scene’s must-see live acts. And thanks to their practice of putting their lead guitarist and bassist out in front and their lead vocalist at the back on a raised platform, they are one of the most distinctive too. Keenan is also renowned for facing the stage backdrop rather than the audience, while an inspired use of lighting also shifts the focus from the group to the immersive visuals displayed on giant screens. Tool often add to the air of unpredictability by inviting various special guests to join them on stage, with various members of Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More, and Metallica as some of the most notable over the years. But fans can always be assured of hearing punishing riffs, impressive drum solos, and Keenan’s powerful vocals as the band tear through classics such as the Grammy-winning "Stinkfist", their US Hot 100 hits "Schism" and "Fear Inoculum", and fan favourite "Forty Six and Two".
