Formed in 1973, Squeeze hit the big time in the late 1970s when new wave was really taking over. In fact, such was the buzz about Squeeze at this time that the band's guitarists and singers Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook were hailed as the "heirs to John Lennon and Paul McCartney's throne". In fact, the band were heavily inspired by bands like The Beatles and The Kinks. The band's original members were Chriss Difford, Glenn Tilbrook, Jools Holland and Paul Gunn. Over time Squeeze would have twenty-five different members playing for the band at one time or another. It was Squeeze's second album Cool for Cats that cemented the bands place as one of Britain's most important young bands. Released in 1979, the singles "Cool for Cats" and "Up the Junction" found instant appeal amongst British listeners. Throughout their long musical journey, the band has split up on numerous occasions. In fact, Squeeze as a band have been active for three periods: 1974-182, 1985-1999 and 2007-present day.
Since forming in 1973, Squeeze has released an astonishing 15 albums and nearly 50 singles.
