Russian premier league history
This section should discuss history, milestones, live performance and any other relevant and interesting information for fans and ticket buyers.
The end of the old Soviet Union brought a new beginning for sport in the region. A top-level Russian football league began in 1992 and consisted of 20 teams. Spartak Moscow set the pace early on winning nine out of the first ten titles and established themselves as the team to beat. Lokomotiv Moscow and CSKA Moscow then picked up five titles between them ending Spartak's run of success but further cementing the dominance of Moscow-based clubs on the division. The late 2000's saw the emergence of Zenit Saint Petersburg and Rubin Kazan with the two teams sharing the titles on offer between 2007 and 2012. Since then a healthy level of competition has developed between the top teams in the league, with titles switching hands more often. Be sure to witness the fight for Russian footballing supremacy with Russian Premier League tickets.
