No fewer than four NFC North division titles
Based in the city of Minneapolis, the Minnesota Vikings began life in 1960 as a National Football League expansion team. Thanks to a world-class defence, the franchise won the final league championship before the AFL merged with the NFL in 1969. Since then the Vikings have competed in the National Football Conference, firstly in the NFC Central from 1970 until 2001 and then the NFC North alongside the Chicago Bears, the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers. Nicknamed the Purple People Eaters, the Vikes and the Purple and Gold, the Vikings have won no fewer than four NFC North division titles since the late ‘00s. Notable Hall of Famers include quarterback Brett Favre, defensive tackle John Randle, guard Randall McDaniel and wide receiver Randy Moss, while Bud Grant remains the team’s most cherished head coach thanks to his remarkable 18 seasons in charge during their early years. Fight songs, Helga hats and Viking mascots
The Minnesota Vikings first took residence at the Metropolitan Stadium before relocating to the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in 1982, TCF Bank Stadium in 2014 and then the U.S. Bank Stadium in 2016. Fans who head for the near 67,000-capacity venue on matchdays can look forward to a whole host of traditions, from the renditions of fight songs, such as "Skol, Vikings" and the Prince-penned "Purple and Gold", to the Gjallarhorn that plays every time the team scores a touchdown or makes a big play, to the traditional Helga hats worn by much of the crowd. Viktor the Viking, a muscular mascot with blond hair and a moustache, a Viking helmet and a nose guard helps to whip fans up into a frenzy whenever any of the team’s three NFC North rivals come to town with the rhythmic war cry known as the Skol chant. The U.S. Bank Field is particularly electric when their geographically closest NFC North team, the Green Bay Packers, pay a visit. You can both buy and sell Minnesota Vikings tickets on StubHub.
