From America to the world
Since its first festival in 1991, Lollapalooza has become one of the biggest music festivals in the world, and one of the longest running in the United States. It features a diverse lineup of artists in different genres ranging from rock, hip-hop, dance, R&B, to reggae. Lollapalooza is the brainchild and creation of Jane’s Addiction singer, Perry Farrell, who originally intended the event to be a farewell concert for his band. The festival was inspired by England’s Reading Festival, which Farrell had previously attended. But unlike Reading, which takes place in a single venue, Lollapalooza moved around as a touring festival, with different legs in different locations. With a highly successful initial run, Lollapalooza became an annual event which ran from 1991 to 1997. After a 6-year break, Farrell revived the festival in 2003, showcasing new artists and touring in new locations. In recent years, Lollapalooza has continuously been held at the Grant Park in Chicago, while holding tours outside the United States as well. Other countries where Lollapalooza have been held include Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Sweden, and France, just to name a few.
More than a music show
Despite being originally envisioned to showcase more underground performers, the festival has seen quite a lot of mainstream and big-name acts in many of it runs. Mainstream bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers have performed at Lollapalooza several times. Other mainstream artists who have performed in Lollapalooza include Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Arianna Grande, and Lady Gaga. Another concept of Lollapalooza is the inclusion of non-musical acts. The festival also features virtual reality games, art displays, and even booths for various profit and non-profit advocacy groups. Come and take part in the next Lollapalooza and open your world to a new musical experience. Those looking for new musical acts will surely enjoy discovering old and upcoming underground artists. Popular hitmakers will be there too, for those who want something familiar and mainstream. Keep posted right here on StubHub and book your Lollapalooza tickets with us.
