Judas Priest background
Formed in Birmingham, UK, in 1970, the band got their name from the Bob Dylan song "The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest" which appeared on the album John Wesley Harding. Interestingly, the original Judas Priest members didn't last long enough to play on the band's recordings. The band, as we recognise them today, consist of Ian Hill (bass), Rob Halford (vocals), Glenn Tipton (guitars), Scott Travis (drums) and Richie Faulkner (guitars). Nicknamed the 'Metal Gods', the band helped shape the heavy metal scene of the time thanks to albums like Sad Wings of Destiny (1976), Sin After Sin (1977) and Stained Class (1978).
In a story that has gone down in rock legend, when lead singer Rob Halford left the band in 1991, the band started to look for a replacement singer. They found Tim "Ripper" Owens, a singer who performed in a Judas Priest cover band, and decided to sing him up as the lead singer of the actual band. This story was immortalized in the 2001 Mark Wahlberg film Rock Star, which was about a tribute band singer who was asked to join the band he was trying to imitate. With the British rock band once again on tour, this is your best chance to secure Judas Priest concert tickets.
