Il Divo: how the story began
The original lineup of Il Divo consisted of Urs Buhler, David Miller, Carlos Marin and Sebastien Izambard with Simon Cowell bringing the four together in 2003. The talented four thought one or two hits might follow and they'd return to their previous career paths. They couldn't have been more wrong! Right from the first note they sang, the four were a monumental success and Il Divo was born.
Il Divo is that magical happening when voices that are talented in their own right come together and create something that transcends the individual star qualities. Originating from four countries, the initial lineup had never met each other and came from different musical backgrounds. Urs Buhler was an accomplished tenor from Switzerland who had mastered many instruments as well as fronting a heavy metal band before turning to classical music. David was an American tenor known for his role in Baz Luhrmann's production of La Boheme on Broadway. Child prodigy Carlos Marin started recording at eight when he was nicknamed "Little Caruso" while "Si Tu Savais" by singer-songwriter Sebastien topped the French music charts.
Il Divo- a gold plated story
The music of Il Divo appeals to all ages with its blend of classic opera and popular hits sung in a mix of languages. Following on from the operatic success of Three Tenors and Andrea Bocelli the quartet were destined for fame, a success not undermined by their Armani-clad physiques. Their first album, Il Divo, debuted in 2004 and broke UK records with sales topping the million mark within six weeks before reaching number one in 12 other nations. They have well over 30 million album sales to date and have lined up an impressive 160 gold and platinum discs in 33 countries.
