Amon Amarth: Death Metal from the abyss of Mount Doom
Taking the name from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth for a metal band is like a pledge to produce something out-of-this-world, something sinisterly mysterious. And Swedish band Amon Amarth, Mount Doom in Tolkien’s Sinarin language, went on to do just that. Combining the force of melodic death metal with the enormous voice of lead singer Johan Hegg and driving deep into Norse mythology, the music creations sound indeed like an out-of-this-world spectacle. Death Metal with Norse power
Amon Amarth was formed in 1992, setting out to combine Norse mythology with their melodic death metal creations. They were among the vast number of similar bands on the beaten path to glory, and it took five years to sign their first record deal with Pulverised Records. In between were years of hard work, finding their own style, writing songs and performing on countless small stages and clubs. But their conviction and dedication caught the attention of extreme metal fans who supported them on their journey to stardom. Their major success began in 1998 when they changed to the Metal Blade Records label and released their debut album "Once Sent from the Golden Hall", a masterpiece of death metal combined with brutal battle noises. Just one year later, with many more live gigs alongside bands such as Deicide and Six Feet Under under their belt, they released the second album "The Avenger". The third album "The Crusher", which appeared in 2001, is to this day considered to be their most aggressive expression of death metal music. A further seven albums and more than a decade later, the band has matured into one of the world’s best death metal groups. Metal Blade Records honoured that by repeatedly extending their record contract. Buy or sell your Amon Amarth tickets right here on StubHub.
